Nose-to-tail cooking, an obsessive wine list, and monthly whole-animal dinners. Reservations open first of the month and fill in an hour.
3. Berkeley North
The most refined room in the city. Tasting menus that would run $220 in Toronto go for $95 here. The wine pairings are actually reasonable.
4. Odd Bird
Coffee shop by day, natural wine bar by night. The vermouth spritz is the drink of the summer.
5. La Luna
Neapolitan pizza from a proper wood-fired oven. The margherita is $16 and better than any $28 pizza in Toronto.
6. Democracy
Brunch spot that treats eggs benedict like religion. The sourdough is baked in-house.
7. Born and Raised
Sunday roast dinner served every Sunday, family-style. Book two weeks ahead.
8. Cima Enoteca
Italian small plates and one of the best amaro selections in Canada. Try the guanciale-wrapped dates.
9. Culantro
Peruvian food done right. The ceviche and the pisco sour are both essentials.
10. Nique
Locke Street bistro with a menu that rotates every three weeks. The lamb shoulder tacos have a cult following.
Why This Matters
Hamilton is 45 minutes from downtown Toronto. Off-peak GO train fare is under $15. There is no excuse to keep eating at overpriced King Street West spots when this exists.
